Assam's Ramdhenu SHG Clinches Prestigious National Food Award at Saras Mela 2026
In a moment of immense pride for Assam, the Ramdhenu Self Help Group (SHG) from Dibrugarh district has been honored with the best food stall award in the overall food category at the national-level Saras Aajeevika Mela 2026, held in Gurugram. This recognition highlights the group's exceptional efforts in promoting local entrepreneurship and culinary excellence on a grand scale.
Excellence in Hygiene and Presentation Earns National Acclaim
Representing the state from Nirmali village under the Barbaruah block, the SHG stood out among fierce competition by maintaining rigorous standards of hygiene, food safety, display, and overall presentation. Their dedication paid off handsomely, as they recorded impressive sales totaling Rs 1.62 lakh over the 17-day duration of the mela, showcasing strong market appeal and customer satisfaction.
Official Recognition and Event Highlights
The award was formally presented by Swati Sharma, joint secretary of the ministry of rural development, during a ceremony that celebrated grassroots initiatives. The fourth edition of the Saras Aajeevika Mela, which ran from February 10 to 26, featured approximately 450 stalls from across 28 states, including nearly 50 stalls dedicated to the food court segment, making the achievement even more noteworthy.
Beyond the stalls, the event was enriched with cultural performances, where Assam's traditional Bihu and Sattriya dance forms were prominently showcased, adding a vibrant touch to the national platform and further promoting the state's rich heritage.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma extended heartfelt congratulations to key members Bobi Gogoi Dutta, Full Hazarika, Ronu Borah, and Minati Borah for their role in highlighting Assam's SHG strength and entrepreneurial excellence.
