Major Income Tax Raids Target VIP-Linked Business Group in Bihar
The Income Tax Department launched a significant, coordinated operation on Tuesday, conducting simultaneous raids at multiple locations associated with the Panorama Group and its Chairman and Managing Director, Sanjeev Mishra, across Purnia and Supaul districts in Bihar. The extensive search operation, which commenced at approximately 6:00 AM, created a considerable stir in the concerned areas and continued until late into the night.
Large-Scale Operation by Senior Officials
A substantial team comprising over twenty senior Income Tax officials from Patna spearheaded the comprehensive search operations. In Purnia district, the raids encompassed all premises connected to the Panorama E-Homes Group, with particular focus on properties situated on District School Road and Bypass Road. Officials meticulously examined a wide array of financial records, land documents, and other pertinent papers during the detailed scrutiny.
Sanjeev Mishra, along with several family members, was subjected to interrogation by the officials throughout the duration of the operation. The action was not confined to Purnia, as it was simultaneously extended to Supaul district, where raids were executed at three key locations linked to Mishra.
Key Locations Raided in Supaul District
The Supaul district raids targeted significant establishments, including:
- Panorama Public School located at Rampur under the jurisdiction of the Chhatapur police station area.
- Panorama Hospital also situated at Rampur.
- Basant Rice Mill located at Karjain.
Political Connections and Investigation Focus
Sanjeev Mishra is notably recognized as a leader affiliated with the Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) and is considered to be closely associated with the party's chief, Mukesh Sahani. This political dimension adds a layer of significance to the ongoing investigation.
A senior Income Tax official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, clarified that the simultaneous raids in Supaul and Purnia were conducted at premises linked to the CMD of the Panorama Group. The operation is directly connected to suspicions of substantial tax evasion and the accumulation of undisclosed income.
"The raids appear to be fundamentally focused on scrutinizing financial transactions, identifying possible irregularities, and investigating related matters. A more comprehensive understanding and further details are expected to emerge only after the searches are fully completed and the seized documents undergo thorough analysis," the official stated.
The investigation remains active, with authorities meticulously combing through the voluminous documentation seized during the raids to uncover evidence of financial malfeasance.
