PM Modi Hails Economic Survey as India's Reform Express, Projects 6.8-7.2% Growth
PM Modi on Economic Survey: India's Reform Express & Growth Forecast

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has lauded the Economic Survey 2026 as a comprehensive depiction of India's "Reform Express," emphasizing the nation's robust economic trajectory amid global challenges. The survey, presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Parliament, projects India's economy to grow by 6.8-7.2% in the fiscal year starting April 2026, reinforcing its status as the world's fastest-growing major economy.

Strong Macroeconomic Fundamentals and Growth Momentum

In a post on social media platform X, PM Modi highlighted that the Economic Survey underscores strong macroeconomic fundamentals and sustained growth momentum. He noted that the survey reflects steady progress in a challenging global environment, with a focus on innovation, entrepreneurship, and infrastructure as key drivers of nation-building.

The Prime Minister stated, "The economic survey tabled today presents a comprehensive picture of India's Reform Express, reflecting steady progress in a challenging global environment. It highlights strong macroeconomic fundamentals, sustained growth momentum and the expanding role of innovation, entrepreneurship and infrastructure in nation-building."

Inclusive Development and Social Welfare Focus

Modi also emphasized that the survey underscores the importance of inclusive development, with targeted attention on farmers, micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), youth employment, and social welfare initiatives. This approach aligns with the government's vision of ensuring that economic growth benefits all sections of society.

He added, "The insights offered will guide informed policymaking and reinforce confidence in India's economic future."

Roadmap for Viksit Bharat and Manufacturing Strengthening

The Economic Survey outlines a strategic roadmap for strengthening manufacturing, enhancing productivity, and accelerating India's march towards becoming a developed nation, or "Viksit Bharat." This includes policies aimed at boosting domestic production and fostering a conducive environment for business growth.

According to National Statistics Office estimates, the Indian economy has grown at 7.4% in the current fiscal year, marking the fourth consecutive year of India being the fastest-growing major economy. The survey has also revised the country's potential growth forecast upward to 7% from an earlier projection of 6.5% made three years ago.

India-EU Trade Deal and Global Opportunities

Earlier, while addressing the media outside Parliament House, Prime Minister Modi discussed the India-European Union trade deal, describing it as a significant opportunity for Indian manufacturers. He stated that the agreement would not only enable earnings but also help win hearts globally, thereby enhancing the brand value of Indian companies and the nation as a whole.

Modi remarked, "The FTA of India and the European Union shows how bright the future of India's youth is. This is free trade for ambitious Bharat, aspirational youth, and Aatmanirbhar Bharat..."

Call for Solutions in a Critical Phase

In his address, the Prime Minister underlined that the beginning of the second quarter of the 21st century marks a crucial phase for India's journey towards becoming a developed nation. He urged a shift from obstruction to finding solutions, emphasizing collaboration and proactive measures to overcome challenges.

He said, "This was the time not for obstruction ('vyavadhan') but for finding solutions ('samadhan')."

The Economic Survey 2026, presented during the Budget Session of Parliament, serves as a key document outlining the government's economic priorities and performance. With PM Modi's endorsement, it highlights India's resilience and growth prospects, setting the stage for continued economic reforms and development initiatives in the coming years.
