PM Modi Lauds Economic Survey 2025-26 as India's Reform Express Journey
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday described the Economic Survey 2025-26 as offering a comprehensive picture of India's growth trajectory, characterizing it as a snapshot of the country's "Reform Express" journey. In a post shared on social media platform X, the Prime Minister emphasized that the document reflects steady progress despite challenging global conditions.
Comprehensive Assessment of Economic Progress
The Prime Minister stated that the Economic Survey presents a thorough overview of India's Reform Express, highlighting the nation's advancement in a complex international environment. "The Economic Survey tabled today presents a comprehensive picture of India's Reform Express, reflecting steady progress in a challenging global environment," PM Modi remarked.
He further elaborated that the survey "highlights strong macroeconomic fundamentals, sustained growth momentum and the expanding role of innovation, entrepreneurship and infrastructure in nation-building." The document underscores the government's commitment to inclusive development with particular focus on several key areas:
- Support for farmers and agricultural communities
- Empowerment of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs)
- Youth employment generation initiatives
- Social welfare programs for vulnerable populations
Roadmap for Viksit Bharat Vision
According to the Prime Minister, the Economic Survey outlines a strategic pathway for strengthening manufacturing capabilities, enhancing productivity across sectors, and accelerating progress toward the vision of Viksit Bharat (Developed India). "It also outlines the roadmap for strengthening manufacturing, enhancing productivity and accelerating our march towards becoming a Viksit Bharat," he explained.
PM Modi emphasized that the insights from the survey would serve as valuable guidance for policymaking while reinforcing confidence in India's economic future. The document provides analytical foundations for strategic decisions that will shape the nation's development trajectory in coming years.
India Maintains Fastest-Growing Major Economy Status
The Economic Survey 2025-26 projects that India will continue as the world's fastest-growing major economy, with real GDP growth estimated at 7.4% for FY26. This projection comes despite global economic fragility stemming from geopolitical tensions, trade fragmentation, and financial vulnerabilities.
Robust Growth Projections and Economic Fundamentals
Tabled in Parliament by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the survey indicates that India's macroeconomic fundamentals have strengthened significantly due to multiple factors:
- Robust domestic demand across consumption segments
- Disciplined fiscal consolidation measures
- Improving financial sector health and stability
The survey forecasts real GDP growth at 7.4% in FY26, followed by growth in the range of 6.8–7.2% in FY27. Gross Value Added (GVA) growth is estimated at 7.3% for FY26. These projections reaffirm India's position as the fastest-growing major economy for the fourth consecutive year, demonstrating remarkable economic resilience.
Strategic Evolution and Manufacturing Transformation
Finance Minister Sitharaman highlighted that the survey documents India's progression from "Swadeshi" to "Strategic Resilience" to "Strategic Indispensability," a trajectory that will encourage global markets to shift from "thinking about buying Indian" to "buying Indian without thinking."
"It is in this context that our government has been focusing on deregulation and strengthening the manufacturing sector in the country through various measures," Sitharaman stated in her social media post.
She emphasized that in alignment with Prime Minister Modi's vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) and Make in India initiatives, the nation's industrial sector has undergone significant transformation:
- Shift from traditional manufacturing to high-tech capabilities
- Enhanced resilience against global supply chain disruptions
- Greater integration with global value chains
Logistics Reforms Boosting Competitiveness
The Finance Minister specifically noted that initiatives like the National Logistics Policy and the Unified Logistics Interface Platform (ULIP) are actively improving logistics efficiency while reducing transaction costs across the economy. "Initiatives like the National Logistics Policy and the Unified Logistics Interface Platform (ULIP) are actively improving logistics efficiency and reducing transaction costs, thereby directly boosting the competitiveness of Indian manufacturing," she explained.
These reforms contribute to creating a more business-friendly environment that supports India's manufacturing ambitions and export competitiveness on the global stage.
The Economic Survey 2025-26 thus serves as both a reflection of India's economic achievements and a strategic document guiding the nation's continued growth journey toward becoming a developed economy while maintaining its status as the world's fastest-growing major economy.
