Just a few weeks ago, lemons were priced at Rs 160 per kg in retail markets. However, a combination of rising consumption and reduced supply has forced consumers to pay significantly more. Traders report that demand for lemons has surged by approximately 100%, as people increasingly turn to lemon-based drinks to combat the rising temperatures.
Supply constraints have further exacerbated the situation, putting additional pressure on prices. The hot and humid weather has boosted sales of lemon-based beverages, with juice stalls and roadside vendors noting a steady influx of customers despite the high costs.

In response to the soaring lemon prices and supply shortages, juice sellers have increased the price of lemon-based drinks by Rs 5 per glass. V Ganesh, a resident of MVP Colony in Visakhapatnam, commented, "The traders sold three lemons at Rs 20. We never thought that the humble lemon too would start to go out of the common man's reach."
Lemons, known as a cheerful fruit and a rich source of vitamin C, have seen their demand skyrocket. This trend is expected to continue as summer progresses, with traders predicting that prices may climb to Rs 230 per kg in the near future.
