Prominent Tesla Investor Ross Gerber Criticizes Elon Musk's Political Ties
Ross Gerber, a well-known Tesla bull and investor, has once again voiced strong criticism against Tesla CEO Elon Musk. This time, Gerber is targeting what he sees as Musk's dangerously close relationship with former US President Donald Trump. Gerber directly links this political alliance to what he describes as the current "mess" in America's electric vehicle rollout.
Gerber Accuses Musk of Slowing Sustainable Transportation Transition
In a recent post on social media platform X, Gerber made serious allegations against the Tesla chief. He claimed Elon Musk bears personal responsibility for decelerating America's shift toward sustainable transportation and energy solutions.
"Meanwhile Elon is personally partially responsible for now DECELERATING the transition to sustainable transportation and energy, at least in the US," Gerber wrote in his post. He added that this sentiment captures how many people currently view both Tesla and its controversial leader.
Gerber firmly believes Musk's political connections have actively contributed to reversing electric vehicle momentum across the United States. The investor argues this alignment fundamentally contradicts Tesla's stated mission of accelerating the world's transition to sustainable energy.
The Musk-Trump Financial Connection
The relationship between Elon Musk and Donald Trump involves substantial financial support. Musk contributed more than $250 million to Trump's successful 2024 presidential campaign, playing a crucial role in securing Trump's second term in office.
Since returning to power, the Trump administration has rolled back numerous clean energy initiatives. Trump has publicly declared his intention to end what he calls Joe Biden's "war on internal combustion engines." His administration has implemented policies that many critics argue deliberately weaken electric vehicle adoption while strengthening traditional automobile manufacturing.
Gerber Labels Tesla's Full Self-Driving System as 'Problematic'
Beyond political criticisms, Ross Gerber has also targeted Tesla's technological ambitions. He recently criticized Elon Musk's claims about the company's autonomous driving capabilities, calling them unrealistic "hallucinations" during conference calls.
Gerber specifically pointed to Tesla's missed deadline for launching driverless Robotaxis by the end of 2025. Despite offering Level 2 autonomy, Gerber emphasized that Tesla's Full Self-Driving system remains fundamentally "problematic."
While acknowledging previous software improvements, Gerber highlighted persistent issues with the technology. "The robotaxis are still just Ubers. The robot is far from working. Car sales are falling," he wrote in his critique.
The investor also questioned Tesla's market valuation, suggesting the company's price-to-earnings ratio near 300 appears unsustainable given current challenges. Gerber's comments represent significant criticism from within Tesla's investor community, raising questions about both the company's political alignments and its technological roadmap.
