Navi Mumbai Residents Protest Frequent Power Outages

Navi Mumbai: A large group of residents in the Kamothe node of Navi Mumbai staged a protest outside the Kamothe police station on Sunday, expressing their frustration over recurring power outages that have plagued the area since Thursday. The outages, which have been particularly severe past midnight, prompted the agitated crowd to demand legal action against the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) authorities.

Protest Details

The protest began after the power supply was disrupted again at 11:30 pm on Saturday. Residents from sectors 35 and 36 gathered on the streets and squatted until 1:30 am, dispersing only after the power was restored following the resolution of a transformer failure. However, the relief was short-lived as the supply was cut again around 5 am, taking 30 minutes to restore. Residents of sector 36 reported that the problem persisted into Sunday, with another outage starting at 9:15 pm, contradicting MSEDCL officials' claims that the issue had been resolved.

Wider Impact

The inconvenience is not limited to Kamothe. Residents of Kharghar sectors 19 and 20, as well as Taloja Phase-2 in sectors 25, 26, and 27, have also been experiencing frequent power outages past midnight. The repeated disruptions have caused significant hardship for the affected communities.

MSEDCL's Mamta Pandey attributed the overloading to the increased use of air conditioners, stating, "One of the major reasons for the overloading is the maximum use of air conditioners." However, residents remain unsatisfied with the response and demand a more permanent solution to the frequent outages.
