Konkan Railway Corporation Achieves Historic Financial and Operational Milestones
In a landmark achievement, the Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd (KRCL) has recorded its highest-ever ticket-checking revenue of Rs 28 crore during the last financial year. This impressive financial performance was accompanied by substantial gains in passenger traffic and overall operational efficiency, marking a significant period of growth and development for the railway network.
Enhanced Passenger Services and Infrastructure Upgrades
To cater to the increasing demand, KRCL operated an impressive 1,400 special trains throughout the year. The corporation also undertook multiple infrastructure upgrades across the Konkan corridor, aimed at improving service reliability and passenger experience. Key improvements included the extension of the Road-6 line at Margao station, which was specifically designed to ease locomotive reversal operations, thereby reducing delays and enhancing operational fluidity.
Commitment to Sustainability and Technological Innovation
Demonstrating a strong commitment to environmental sustainability, KRCL generated 3.7 lakh kWh of solar power, resulting in substantial savings of approximately Rs 46 lakh. In a move towards technological advancement, the corporation introduced drone-based track monitoring systems. This innovative approach is expected to significantly reduce maintenance downtime by enabling more efficient and precise inspections of railway tracks.
Freight Efficiency and Accessibility Improvements
Freight operations saw notable improvements with the enhancement of roll-on roll-off (RoRo) carrying capacity, which was increased from 50 MT to 57 MT. This upgrade has bolstered freight efficiency, allowing for more streamlined and cost-effective transportation of goods. Additionally, KRCL has made significant strides in improving accessibility for persons with disabilities. Upgrades including ramps, braille signage, and improved general signage were carried out at key stations such as Karmali, Thivim, Karwar, Murdeshwar, and Udupi.
Enhanced Passenger Amenities
To further elevate the travel experience, executive and air-conditioned lounges have been made operational at 10 stations, including prominent locations like Thivim, Karmali, and Margao. These amenities are part of KRCL's broader strategy to provide superior comfort and convenience to passengers, aligning with modern travel expectations.
The combined efforts in revenue generation, infrastructure development, sustainability, and passenger service enhancements underscore KRCL's robust performance and its commitment to advancing railway operations in the Konkan region.
