GU Approves Deficit Budget of Rs 48.8 Crore in Final Meet

Ahmedabad: Gujarat University (GU) convened the final meeting of its board of management and executive council on Sunday, with the tenure of both governing bodies set to conclude on May 5. During the meeting, several key decisions were taken, including approval of the budget for the financial year 2026–27.

Budget Approval and Deficit

The university cleared a budget projecting an income of Rs 241 crore against an expenditure of Rs 289.8 crore, indicating a deficit of about Rs 48.8 crore. Members unanimously approved the budget and also addressed allegations of excess payments, formally stating that no such overpayments had occurred.

End of Tenure and Quorum Concerns

As the term of most members ends on May 5, the meeting marked the last for both bodies. Only three government-appointed members will remain for another year, along with the Vice-Chancellor and the Registrar. With limited members, upcoming meetings may face quorum issues until fresh appointments are made.
