The Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) has announced plans to construct slip roads on the Ghaziabad elevated road to provide relief to commuters from Indirapuram, Vasundhara, and Vaishali. The project, expected to be completed by 2026, aims to reduce congestion and travel time for thousands of daily users.
Key Locations for Slip Roads
The slip roads will be built at three critical points: near the Indirapuram crossing, the Vasundhara sector 9 junction, and the Vaishali sector 4 area. Each slip road will allow vehicles to enter or exit the elevated road seamlessly, bypassing traffic signals and reducing bottlenecks.
According to GDA officials, the project is part of a broader plan to improve connectivity in the rapidly growing trans-Hindon region. The elevated road, which connects NH-24 to the Delhi-Meerut Expressway, currently lacks proper entry and exit points, forcing commuters to use service lanes that are often clogged.
Timeline and Cost
The GDA has allocated a budget of approximately Rs 50 crore for the construction. Work is slated to begin in early 2024, with completion targeted for mid-2026. The authority has already initiated the tendering process and expects to award the contract within three months.
"The slip roads will significantly cut down travel time for residents of Indirapuram, Vasundhara, and Vaishali. We estimate that commuters will save at least 15-20 minutes during peak hours," said a GDA spokesperson.
Impact on Commuters
The elevated road currently handles over 50,000 vehicles daily, and the lack of proper slip roads has led to long queues at the few existing entry and exit points. The new slip roads are expected to distribute traffic more evenly, reducing wait times and fuel consumption.
Local residents have welcomed the move. "This is a long-pending demand. The elevated road is a great asset, but without proper slip roads, it creates more problems than it solves. I hope the GDA completes the work on time," said Ramesh Kumar, a resident of Indirapuram.
Future Plans
The GDA is also exploring the possibility of adding more slip roads at other locations along the elevated road in the future. Additionally, the authority is working on improving drainage and lighting on the elevated stretch to enhance safety.
The project is part of a Rs 200-crore infrastructure upgrade plan for Ghaziabad, which includes widening of roads, construction of flyovers, and installation of intelligent traffic management systems.
