The price of commercial liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) has been increased by Rs 42 per 19 kg cylinder, while domestic LPG rates remain unchanged. The revised prices came into effect from March 1, 2025.
Price Revision Details
According to a notification from oil marketing companies, the price of a 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder has been raised to Rs 1,875 in Delhi, up from Rs 1,833. This marks an increase of Rs 42 per cylinder. In Mumbai, the price now stands at Rs 1,822, while in Kolkata and Chennai, it is Rs 1,976 and Rs 2,014.50, respectively.
The hike is attributed to fluctuations in global crude oil prices and international LPG rates. Domestic LPG cylinders, used primarily for cooking in households, continue to be priced at Rs 803 per 14.2 kg cylinder in Delhi, with no change in subsidy or pricing structure.
Impact on Consumers
Commercial LPG is widely used in hotels, restaurants, and industrial establishments. The price increase will add to the operational costs for businesses, potentially leading to higher prices for consumers. However, the government has not made any changes to the subsidy for domestic users, ensuring that household budgets remain unaffected.
Oil companies revise LPG prices on a monthly basis, based on the average international benchmark prices and exchange rates. The last price revision for commercial LPG was a reduction of Rs 4 per cylinder in February 2025.
Industry experts suggest that the current hike is in line with global trends, and further adjustments may occur depending on geopolitical developments and crude oil supply dynamics.
