The cornerstone of this reshuffle is the transition of Gopal Vittal, who has steered Airtel as its Managing Director and CEO for the past thirteen years. He will move into the role of Executive Vice Chairman. The company stated that this shift follows a transition period initiated in late 2024. In his new capacity, Vittal will provide broader oversight for Bharti Airtel and all its global subsidiaries. Stepping into the shoes to lead the crucial India operations will be Shashwat Sharma, who has been designated as the new Managing Director and CEO of Bharti Airtel India. Sharma has been working closely with Vittal to prepare for this leadership role and will report directly to the Executive Vice Chairman from 2026.
