Widow Entrepreneur Files Complaint Over Rs 7 Crore GST Fraud

A widowed entrepreneur in Mumbai has lodged a police complaint against an acquaintance for allegedly taking fraudulent control of her Goods and Services Tax (GST) account. The accused is accused of causing her catering company to accumulate dues of up to Rs 7 crore by submitting fake sales invoices. The Bangur Nagar Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) and are investigating the matter further.

Background of the Case

The 43-year-old complainant runs a catering business, taking food orders via WhatsApp and making deliveries accordingly. She was introduced to the acquaintance, identified as Johnny, by her late husband, who had helped her seek loans for the business in the past. After her husband passed away in October 2025, Johnny reached out to the complainant and her sister, offering to help them raise funds for their children's education and household expenses. He suggested obtaining a loan for the catering company to start a food truck business.

Alleged Fraudulent Activities

Johnny obtained the company's GST credentials, Aadhaar copy, and SIM card. In December 2025, he allegedly changed the GST account password. Despite repeated requests from the complainant's sister, he did not share the new password or return the SIM card. Earlier this month, a GST official visited the complainant's home and informed her that the company owed the state Rs 7 crore in GST. Upon verification, the complainant discovered that fake sales invoices had been submitted, and her company was registered at an address in Vishakhapatnam without her knowledge. She subsequently filed a police complaint.
