Upma Chawdhry Appointed MSE Chairperson, First Woman to Lead MII

Upma Chawdhry, a retired 1983-batch IAS officer from the Himachal Pradesh cadre, has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Metropolitan Stock Exchange (MSE). With this appointment, she becomes the first woman to lead a Market Infrastructure Institution (MII) in India. The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has approved her appointment as the Chairperson of the Governing Board of MSE.

Distinguished Administrative Career

Born in 1959, Chawdhry has had a remarkable administrative career spanning over 35 years. She served in various key positions and was also the first woman Director of the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) in Mussoorie in 2016. She retired from service in December 2020.

Personal Background

Both Upma and her husband Vineet Chawdhry, who served as the Chief Secretary of Himachal Pradesh, hail from Jalandhar. She brings with her three decades of rich administrative and governance experience across critical sectors.
