In a crackdown on illegal liquor trade, Kapurthala police arrested two individuals in separate excise cases and seized a significant quantity of illicit liquor. The arrests were made during special checking drives conducted in different areas of the district.

First Arrest in Sultanpur Lodhi

The first accused, identified as Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Sultanpur Lodhi, was apprehended near the local bus stand. Police recovered 25 bottles of illicit liquor from his possession. A case under the Punjab Excise Act has been registered against him at the Sultanpur Lodhi police station.

Second Arrest in Kapurthala City

In the second incident, police arrested Rajinder Kumar, a resident of Kapurthala city, from the New Railway Colony area. He was found in possession of 30 bottles of illegal liquor. A separate case has been filed against him at the Kapurthala city police station.

Legal Proceedings

Both accused were produced before a local court, which remanded them to judicial custody. The police have initiated further investigations to trace the source of the illicit liquor and identify any other individuals involved in the illegal trade.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kapurthala said that the drive against illegal liquor will continue, and strict action will be taken against those involved in such activities. He urged the public to inform the police about any suspicious activities related to the sale or distribution of illicit liquor.

The seizures are part of a broader effort by the Punjab police to curb the illegal liquor trade, which has been a persistent issue in the state. Authorities have been conducting regular raids and checking points to deter such practices.
