SLBC Proposes Farmer ID Cards to Simplify Loan Processing
The state level bankers’ committee (SLBC) has urged the government to issue identity cards to farmers, a move aimed at expediting loan sanctioning procedures. Bank of India general manager Guru Prasad Gond stated that providing farmers with ID cards containing land details would reduce the workload for banks during loan approvals. He added that this would also enable banks to evaluate the track record of farmers and prevent multiple loans from being sanctioned to a single individual.
Appeal Made at Mango Festival
Gond made this appeal while attending the mango festival in Ranchi, which concluded on Sunday. The event was organized by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard). Gond noted that several states have already implemented farmer identity cards, which have facilitated credit flow. He also emphasized the need to raise the threshold for land possession certificates required for farm loans from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2 lakh.
Nabard Focuses on Sustainable Livelihoods
Deepmala Ghosh, chief general manager of Nabard, highlighted the organization's focus on building environmentally sustainable livelihood projects for tribal communities. “Mango and other agricultural products showcased during the three-day festival are a part of the initiative. Mangoes have significant potential to enhance farmer incomes by enabling access to premium domestic and international markets,” she said.
Natural Mangoes Attract Visitors
Several visitors thronged the stalls to purchase mangoes grown naturally and free from carbide, a chemical commonly used for artificial ripening. The festival provided a platform for farmers to display their produce and connect with buyers.
