A theft of approximately Rs 1.6 lakh was reported from a sweet shop in Pataudi, Gurgaon. The shop owner, Shyam Singh, who runs Bikaner Sweet near Amar Market, alleged that the cash was stolen by a man who had joined the shop just a month ago.
Incident Details
Singh, originally from Rajasthan and now residing in Pataudi, arrived at his shop around 6 am on April 23 to find the shutter open and the lock broken. Upon inspection, he discovered that the cash locker had been forced open and Rs 1.6 lakh was missing. Additionally, one of the shop's CCTV cameras was damaged. Reviewing footage from another camera, Singh identified the thief as Suraj, who had started working at the shop only a month prior.
Initial Assurance and Delay
Singh initially contacted the accused's family, who assured him that the matter would be resolved and the money returned. Based on this promise, he delayed filing a complaint with the police. However, when the family became unreachable and no money was returned, Singh approached the police on April 27 and submitted a written complaint.
Police Response
Police stated that they had reached the spot on April 23 after receiving information about the break-in through an emergency response vehicle. Following the complaint, an FIR was registered under sections 306 (theft by a clerk or servant), 331(4) (house-trespass), and 324(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. A search for the accused, who is currently absconding, has been launched.
The incident highlights the vulnerability of small businesses to employee theft and the importance of timely reporting to law enforcement. The police continue their investigation to apprehend the suspect.
