Ahmedabad: A bullion businessman from Rajkot has accused a trader based in Vatva of failing to return 2.3 kilograms of silver worth approximately Rs 6 lakh that was handed over for a purity test. The Khadia police registered a criminal breach of trust case against the accused trader on Tuesday.
Incident at Manek Chowk
According to the complaint, the incident took place on April 2 at Manek Chowk in Ahmedabad's old city. The complainant, who operates a bullion business from Soni Bazaar in Rajkot, had traveled to Ahmedabad with a business partner to conduct a silver transaction.
Long-Standing Acquaintance
The complainant stated that he and his partner had known the accused trader for around 18 years. They contacted him to assist with a purity test for the silver. The accused was called to a location near the Old Stock Exchange building at Manek Chowk, where the businessmen allegedly handed over 2.3 kg of fine silver. Police confirmed that the silver was valued at around Rs 6 lakh.
Disappearance of the Accused
According to the complaint, the accused told the businessmen that he would get the silver tested and left the spot with the consignment. When he did not return after nearly 30 minutes, the complainant and his partner tried contacting him multiple times on his mobile phone. The complainant alleged that the accused switched off his phone, and contact could not be established thereafter.
Police Action
The Khadia police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for criminal breach of trust. Investigations are underway to trace the accused and recover the silver.
