Ahmedabad: The city crime branch on Sunday apprehended a 30-year-old employee of a jewellery shop in Manek Chowk for allegedly stealing approximately 280 grams of gold valued at Rs 42.1 lakh over a span of six months.
Complaint and Investigation
According to police officials, a complaint was lodged at the Khadia police station alleging that an employee had siphoned off small quantities of gold from nearly 25 pieces of jewellery at the shop. Investigators revealed that the accused had methodically removed minute amounts of gold on multiple occasions, eventually accumulating nearly 280 grams of fine gold before disappearing from the workplace.
Following the complaint, crime branch teams initiated an investigation and leveraged human intelligence sources to develop leads. During the probe, police traced the accused, a resident of Amraiwadi, who was reportedly attempting to dispose of the stolen gold after converting it into gold bars.
Arrest and Recovery
Police apprehended the accused and recovered five gold bars weighing a total of 280 grams. The recovered gold has an estimated market value of Rs 42.1 lakh, officials confirmed.
Investigators believe the accused had systematically stolen small quantities of gold from the shop over several months to avoid detection. The entire stolen property has been successfully recovered, police said.
Legal Proceedings
A case has been registered at Khadia police station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The accused has been handed over to Khadia police for further investigation.
