CBI Arrests CWC Manager in Hazaribag Bribery Case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a manager of the Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) in Hazaribag for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from a contractor. The arrest was made on Friday night, the central agency confirmed on Saturday.

Details of the Arrest

The accused, identified as Ravi Ranjan Kumar, was caught by a team from the CBI's Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) in Ranchi while accepting the bribe amount. The agency had registered a case against him on Thursday following allegations that he had demanded Rs 1 lakh from the complainant to allow continuation of awarded work.

Acting on the complaint, CBI officers laid a trap and apprehended Kumar during the transaction. Subsequently, the agency conducted searches at his residence and other premises.

Recovery of Assets

During searches at Kumar's residence in Hazaribag, officials recovered approximately Rs 22 lakh in cash, jewellery worth around Rs 15 lakh, and documents related to immovable assets valued at about Rs 70 lakh. The properties are reportedly located in Patna (Bihar), Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh), and Ranchi. The CBI stated that further investigation is ongoing.

Legal Proceedings

On Saturday, the accused was produced before a special CBI court in Ranchi, which remanded him to judicial custody.

The CBI has urged the public to report instances of corruption in central government departments, public sector undertakings, banks, insurance companies, CCL, and railways. Complaints can be lodged with the ACB in Ranchi at 0651-2360093 (office) or 9470590422 (mobile).
