The Andhra Pradesh government is preparing to take stringent measures against the illegal diversion, hoarding, and black marketing of fertilisers meant for farmers. Agriculture Minister Kinjarapu Atchannaidu has made it clear that such practices will not be tolerated, warning that dealers found violating regulations will face licence cancellation and criminal prosecution.
Minister Expresses Concern Over Fertiliser Diversion
Expressing deep concern over fertilisers being diverted for non-agricultural purposes and illegally transported, the minister affirmed the government's commitment to protecting farmers' interests. He stated that strict legal action would be taken against those involved in hoarding, black marketing, diversion to industries, and movement of fertilisers to other states for higher profits.
Special Inspections Ordered
Atchannaidu directed Agriculture Commissioner M Manjeer Jilani to conduct special state-wide inspections targeting fertiliser dealers, warehouses, and transport hubs. Vigilance teams and enforcement squads have been instructed to intensify surveillance on illegal movement and unauthorised sales.
Crackdown Since May 4
Highlighting the ongoing crackdown that began on May 4 for the 2026–27 season, the minister reported that 182 show-cause notices have been issued to dealers. Approximately 80 licences have been suspended, one cancelled, and a case registered under Section 6-A. Authorities have detained 3,372 metric tonnes of fertilisers valued at ₹7.07 crore and seized additional stocks worth ₹5 lakh.
Action Against Negligent Officials
The minister warned that agriculture department officials would also face action for negligence. District joint directors have been empowered to suspend erring staff. He stressed the need for daily monitoring of fertiliser stocks and assured that the government is committed to ensuring timely supply to farmers.
