ICAI Inducts 17,800 New Chartered Accountants; Northern Region Leads
17,800 New CAs Join Profession, Northern Region Tops

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) formally ushered in a fresh cohort of professionals into the esteemed world of finance and audit. In a grand convocation ceremony held simultaneously across 15 cities on Monday, 17,800 newly qualified Chartered Accountants received their membership certificates, marking their official entry into the profession.

Nationwide Ceremony and Regional Dominance

The event, inaugurated from New Delhi, saw council members overseeing proceedings in major centers including Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. Instead of presenting a monolithic national figure, ICAI provided a detailed region-wise distribution of the new inductees, revealing clear geographic trends in the latest batch of talent.

The data, covering candidates who applied for enrolment between July 16, 2025, and November 30, 2025, showed the Northern Region producing the highest number of new CAs. The complete breakdown is as follows:

  • Northern Region: 5,474
  • Western Region: 5,195
  • Eastern Region: 3,205
  • Central Region: 2,670
  • Southern Region: 1,256

This convocation, held twice annually, serves as the pivotal transition point for candidates who have successfully navigated the institute's rigorous examination and training process.

Evolving Role of the Chartered Accountant

Speakers at the ceremony, including ICAI's president and vice-president, emphasized the rapidly expanding scope of the chartered accountancy profession. The focus has moved far beyond traditional domains of audit and taxation.

Official statements highlighted the profession's growing relevance in public finance management, digital governance systems, and enhancing transparency and accountability. There is increasing engagement of CAs with Panchayati Raj institutions and public sector audits, aligning with the nation's evolving regulatory and governance frameworks.

A Commitment to Ethics and Continuous Learning

ICAI reiterated that membership is not merely a qualification but a commitment. The newly inducted professionals are expected to adhere to the highest ethical standards and professional conduct regulations. The institute also stressed the importance of continuous professional education to keep pace with the dynamic financial landscape.

The event, held on December 30, 2025, was a significant milestone for the 17,800 individuals and a substantial addition of skilled professionals to India's financial backbone, ready to contribute to a digitally transforming economy.
