Trump Considers Winding Down Iran Ops; US Hits Thousands of Targets

Trump Announces Potential End to US Military Operations in Iran

President Donald Trump indicated on Friday that the United States is nearing the conclusion of its military campaign against Iran, stating that objectives are largely met. In a post on Truth Social, he outlined five key goals, including the degradation of Iran's military capabilities and prevention of nuclear advancement.

Objectives and Strategic Goals Outlined

Trump detailed the following objectives for the US efforts:

  1. Completely degrade Iranian missile capability, launchers, and related systems.
  2. Destroy Iran's defense industrial base to cripple its military production.
  3. Eliminate Iran's Navy and Air Force, including anti-aircraft weaponry.
  4. Prevent Iran from approaching nuclear capability, ensuring US readiness to respond.
  5. Protect Middle Eastern allies such as Israel, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Bahrain, and Kuwait at the highest level.

He emphasized that the Hormuz Strait should be policed by other nations, with US assistance if requested, once the Iranian threat is neutralized.

US Department of War Reports Extensive Strikes

Concurrently, the US Department of War provided an update on Operation Epic Fury, revealing that thousands of Iranian targets have been hit over the past week. The US Central Command forces have damaged or sunk more than 120 Iranian naval vessels, including all 11 submarines.

Pentagon Press Secretary Kingsley Wilson praised the service members involved, stating, "To the 50,000 service members supporting this mission, and their families, we are thinking about you, and we are beyond proud of your resolve and resiliency. You are the very best of our great nation."

Targets and Escalating Tensions

The operation targeted a wide range of Iranian assets, including:

  • Command and control centers
  • Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps headquarters and intelligence sites
  • Air defense systems and missile sites
  • Weapon production and storage bunkers
  • Military infrastructure and communications capabilities
  • Naval ships and submarines

In a significant development, Iran reportedly fired two intermediate-range ballistic missiles towards the joint US-UK military base at Diego Garcia, located about 4,000 kilometers away. One missile failed, while the other was intercepted by a US warship, though success remains unclear. This suggests Iran's missile range may exceed its publicly stated 2,000 kilometers.

No Ceasefire in Sight

Amid the ongoing conflict, Trump ruled out a ceasefire, stating outside the White House, "We can have dialogue, but I don't want to do a ceasefire. You don't do a ceasefire when you're literally obliterating the other side. We're not looking to do that." This stance underscores the US commitment to its military objectives as tensions continue to escalate in the region.
