An Indian-origin motel owner has been taken into custody in Springfield, Ohio, following a disturbing incident where a woman was discovered being held against her will on his property. While 64-year-old Dipak Kumar Patel was not directly involved in the captivity, authorities have charged him with serious offenses for allegedly suppressing vital information and altering records, which significantly hampered the police investigation.
Police Respond to Urgent Distress Call
On February 3, the Springfield Township Police Department received an urgent alert indicating that a woman inside Patel's motel was likely in immediate danger. "Information provided to officers indicated that the female was not free to leave and needed immediate assistance," the police stated in an official release. Responding swiftly, officers located the victim on the premises and arrested a male suspect from the motel who had an active warrant against him.
Owner Withheld Critical Information
However, the investigation took a troubling turn when police examined the motel's records. They discovered that Patel, as the owner, had deliberately withheld "critical information" that would have expedited the victim's rescue. Furthermore, the records had been tampered with, obstructing the official inquiry. This led to Patel being formally charged on Wednesday with obstructing official business and tampering with records. He was subsequently transported to the Summit County Jail.

When informed of the criminal charges, Patel defended himself by claiming he was unaware of the woman's situation and that the details "slipped out of his mind."
