Tamil Nadu Pharmacy Student Dies by Suicide After Hostel Raid Finds Drugs
BPharm Student Jumps to Death After Drug Found in Hostel

A tragic incident at a private pharmacy college in Namakkal district has resulted in the death of a third-year student. The young man leaped to his death from the college building shortly after being questioned about drugs found in his hostel room during an inspection.

Sequence of Events Leading to the Tragedy

The incident occurred on Saturday at a college located near Paramathi. The deceased has been identified as Yogesh, a 20-year-old BPharm student and the son of Rangabhashanam from Manapakkam in Villupuram district. Yogesh was residing in the hostel on the college campus.

According to the Paramathi police, the college staff conducted their routine monthly hostel inspection around 10 am. During the search, they discovered a substance suspected to be 'bangu' drug in Yogesh's room. The staff questioned him about the contraband. Subsequently, he was taken to the principal's private room, located near the classrooms, for further questioning.

Teachers brought him out of the room at approximately 1 pm. Immediately afterwards, in a shocking turn of events, Yogesh climbed the stairs and jumped from the third floor of the college building.

Aftermath and Police Investigation

Yogesh sustained a severe head injury from the fall. He was rushed to the Namakkal Government Medical College and Hospital for treatment but succumbed to his injuries on the way.

Alerted by the college administration, senior police officials, including Namakkal Superintendent of Police S. Vimala and Velur Deputy Superintendent of Police Sangeetha, visited the spot. They conducted separate inquiries with students and teachers to piece together the events.

The case has taken a serious turn with allegations from the student's family. Yogesh's father has alleged that college staff and teachers beat his son in front of other students. "My son begged them not to tell us about the incident. But the teachers attacked him," he stated. Based on the complaint, the Paramathi police have registered a case and are conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.

Broader Implications and Ongoing Probe

This incident has raised serious questions about hostel inspection protocols, student handling during disciplinary actions, and the prevalence of drugs on educational campuses. The police inquiry is now focused on verifying the sequence of events, the nature of the questioning, and the allegations of physical assault made by the grieving father. The outcome of this probe is awaited as the community reels from the loss of a young life.
