The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has clarified that there is no plan to evacuate Indian nationals from Fujairah or other parts of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The statement comes amid rising tensions in the region following recent attacks on oil tankers off the coast of Fujairah.
MEA Statement on Evacuation
In a press briefing, the MEA spokesperson stated that the Indian government has not issued any advisory for evacuation of Indians from Fujairah or any other emirate in the UAE. The spokesperson emphasized that the situation is being closely monitored, but there is no immediate threat to Indian nationals in the region.
Background of Regional Tensions
The clarification follows reports of increased security concerns after multiple oil tankers were damaged near the port of Fujairah in May. The incidents have heightened tensions in the Persian Gulf region, with several countries advising caution for their citizens. However, the MEA has assessed that the security situation in the UAE remains stable for Indian expatriates.
India has a large diaspora in the UAE, with over 3.3 million Indians living and working there. The Indian embassy in Abu Dhabi and the consulate in Dubai have been in touch with local authorities and community leaders to ensure the safety of Indian nationals.
Advisory for Indian Nationals
The MEA has advised Indian nationals in the UAE to stay in touch with the Indian embassy or consulate for any updates. They are also encouraged to register with the embassy for emergency alerts. However, no evacuation or repatriation efforts are being planned at this time.
The government continues to monitor the situation and will take appropriate action if necessary. For now, the MEA urges calm and reassures the Indian community in the UAE that their safety is a priority.
