Bahrain activated emergency warning sirens across the country on Wednesday, urging residents to seek immediate shelter amid escalating regional tensions, the Ministry of Interior announced. In a post on social media platform X, the ministry instructed the public to remain calm and prioritize safety protocols, directing them to head to the nearest safe place and follow official news channels.
As Bahrain implemented its emergency protocols, neighboring Kuwait was actively engaging incoming aerial threats. Kuwaiti authorities confirmed that the nation's air defense networks successfully intercepted and neutralized a wave of incoming missiles and drones during the early hours of Wednesday, following reports of loud explosions across multiple sectors of the country.
Kuwaiti Air Defenses Respond
The Kuwaiti Army's General Staff released an official statement clarifying that the loud blasts reported by residents were directly linked to defensive operations against hostile aerial attacks. The military command announced that Kuwaiti air defenses were confronting hostile missile and drone attacks and that any explosion sounds heard were the result of interception systems neutralizing the threats.
Following these defensive engagements, the military issued an advisory cautioning the public against approaching or handling any fallen debris, shrapnel, or unidentified objects, warning that such materials pose significant safety hazards. Authorities urged strict compliance with all safety directives broadcast by official bodies.
Official Appeals for Safety
Ministry of Defence spokesperson Colonel Saud Abdulaziz Al-Otaibi appealed to citizens and residents to immediately contact emergency services via the 112 hotline upon discovering any suspicious debris. He also called on the public to disregard speculative reports and rely exclusively on state-sanctioned information channels for verified updates. The military leadership reiterated the importance of cooperation and adherence to issued guidelines to ensure the security and safety of all.
Iranian Claims and Regional Context
Parallel regional media reports presented conflicting narratives regarding the source and target of the bombardment. Iran's state-run broadcaster IRIB asserted that American military infrastructure inside Kuwait had been struck in retaliation for what Tehran characterized as aggressive U.S. actions in the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz, and Qeshm Island. According to the Iranian broadcaster, American bases in Kuwait were hit following hostile U.S. actions in those areas.
These claims could not be independently verified. The cross-border friction occurs against a backdrop of rapidly deteriorating regional stability following recent direct military confrontations involving Iran, the United States, and Israel.
Previous Incidents and US Confirmation
This latest escalation follows an incident on Monday, when Kuwait announced it had successfully thwarted a separate barrage of missiles and drones, holding Iran fully responsible for what it called heinous attacks. Concurrently, the United States military's Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that its forces had successfully intercepted two Iranian ballistic missiles targeting American forces based in Kuwait. CENTCOM stated that the missiles were immediately defeated and no American personnel were harmed.
The situation remains fluid, with regional authorities maintaining heightened alert and urging the public to follow official guidance.
