US Trade Team in India June 1-4 for Interim Pact Talks

A team from the United States is scheduled to visit India from June 1 to June 4 to finalize the details of an interim trade agreement and advance negotiations under the broader bilateral trade agreement (BTA), the commerce ministry announced on Wednesday.

Key Details of the Visit

The US delegation will be led by chief negotiator Brendan Lynch. The discussions are expected to cover multiple areas, including market access, non-tariff measures, customs and trade facilitation, investment promotion, and economic security alignment.

Background of the Trade Talks

On February 7, India and the US issued a joint statement finalizing the contours or framework of the first phase of the bilateral trade agreement, also referred to as an interim trade agreement. Both sides are now working to finalize the legal text for that deal. The framework reaffirmed the commitment of both countries to the broader India-US BTA negotiations.
