Former Mizoram Chief Minister and Mizo National Front (MNF) president Zoramthanga met National Security Advisor Ajit Kumar Doval in New Delhi on Tuesday, according to a media release from the MNF on Friday. The meeting covered a wide range of issues, with a focus on geopolitical developments in neighboring countries.

Key Discussion Points

The release stated that Zoramthanga and Doval discussed geopolitical issues, including the political situations in Myanmar and Bangladesh. These discussions come amid a significant refugee influx into Mizoram due to turmoil in both nations.

Refugee Crisis in Mizoram

Currently, over 29,700 refugees from Myanmar and nearly 1,700 refugees from Bangladesh are taking shelter in Mizoram. The political instability in these countries has driven thousands to seek safety across the border.

Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement

Both leaders expressed regret that the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement signed between the Myanmar government and representatives of ethnic armed organizations in early 2015 was not implemented. They believed that proper implementation could have brought lasting peace to the region and prevented the current crisis.

The meeting highlights the ongoing concerns regarding regional stability and the humanitarian situation in Mizoram, which continues to host a large number of refugees.
