The Ludhiana police have registered a case against two dairy operators for allegedly dumping waste and discharging contaminated water along the banks of the Buddha Nullah, officials confirmed on Thursday.
Case Registered at Division Number 7 Police Station
The case was registered at the Division Number 7 police station following a written complaint and an investigation report submitted by senior officials of the Ludhiana Urban Water and Wastewater Management Limited. The complaint was lodged on June 2 by the management body's Zone B assistant corporation engineer, highlighting violations by dairies situated near the river.
Environmental Norms Violated
According to the complaint, several dairy units were flouting environmental norms by discharging polluted wastewater and cow dung into the effluent treatment plant (ETP) drain. During inspections, officials found glaring negligence at two prominent dairy units. Investigators confirmed that untreated hazardous waste from these establishments was being released into the drain, causing severe environmental damage and contaminating local water sources.
The police registered the case after an initial investigation that verified the complainant's allegations. The accused dairy operators now face legal action for their role in polluting the Buddha Nullah, a major water body in Ludhiana that has long been a concern for environmentalists and residents.
