State health officials in Kolkata announced that six passengers who arrived from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) or Uganda in recent weeks are currently under home surveillance. This precautionary measure follows the standard operating procedure (SOP) issued after the Ebola outbreak in the DRC.
Surveillance Details
Although none of the individuals exhibit any symptoms of Ebola, health authorities have placed them under home monitoring for a duration of three weeks. The surveillance is a proactive step to ensure early detection and containment of any potential cases.
Precautionary Measures at ID Hospital
Health officials further stated that while it is unlikely for the state to encounter a positive or suspect case, 12 isolation cabins at the Infectious Diseases (ID) Hospital in Beleghata have been prepared and kept ready. This hospital is the state’s apex institute for managing infectious diseases. The isolation units are fully equipped to handle any emergency, should the need arise.
The health department continues to monitor the situation closely and has urged the public not to panic. All necessary protocols are being followed to safeguard public health.
