Security Forces Foil Infiltration Attempt in North Kashmir
Indian security forces successfully thwarted an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control in north Kashmir's Kupwara district, eliminating two militants in a carefully coordinated operation. The incident occurred in the sensitive Keran sector, where army personnel engaged the infiltrators in a gunfight during the early hours of Saturday.
Operation Pimple: How It Unfolded
The operation, codenamed Operation Pimple, was launched on Friday evening following specific intelligence inputs about militants attempting to cross into the Kashmir valley. A joint team of security forces immediately swung into action after receiving credible information about the planned infiltration.
According to official statements, alert troops observed suspicious movement in the area and challenged the infiltrating militants. "On being cornered, the militants opened indiscriminate fire and tried to break the security cordon," revealed an official familiar with the operation details.
The Army's valley-based 15 Corps confirmed the development through a social media post: "On 07 Nov 2025, based on specific intelligence input from agencies, regarding an infiltration attempt, a joint operation was launched in the Keran sector of Kupwara. Alert troops spotted suspicious activity and challenged which resulted in terrorists opening indiscriminate fire."
Dawn Assault and Aftermath
After establishing contact with the militants and trapping them in a tight security cordon, the operation was temporarily paused overnight. The forces resumed their assault at dawn on Saturday, resulting in the neutralization of both infiltrators.
"Two terrorists have been neutralised by the security forces in the ongoing operation. The search of the area is in progress," the Army stated in its official communication. The thorough search operation aims to ensure no weapons or explosives were left behind by the eliminated militants.
Security experts note that this successful operation demonstrates the heightened alertness of Indian forces along the LoC, particularly during the critical pre-winter months when infiltration attempts traditionally increase.
Seasonal Infiltration Pattern
The timing of this infiltration attempt aligns with established patterns observed by security agencies. Both the Indian Army and the Border Security Force (BSF) have consistently maintained that militants positioned at launchpads across the border actively attempt to infiltrate into the valley before winter sets in.
Infiltration attempts typically surge during October and November as militant groups try to sneak into the Kashmir valley before heavy snowfall closes mountain passes and makes movement across the Line of Control extremely difficult. The successful prevention of this attempt has potentially averted another security challenge in the region.
