Assam Rifles personnel recovered a cache of arms and explosive materials during an operation conducted in the Saikumphai hamlet of Mizoram's Champhai district on Saturday, according to an official statement issued on Monday.
Operation Details
The operation was launched following specific intelligence inputs about the presence of concealed arms and explosives in the area, which is located on the banks of the Mizoram-Myanmar border river Tiau. Security personnel subsequently cordoned off the suspected site and carried out a detailed search operation. During the operation, the team located a hideout from where several items were recovered.
Seized Materials
According to the statement, the seized materials included four firearms, three hand grenades, one explosive device, and four antenna batteries. Assam Rifles stated that the operation was conducted with caution considering the presence of explosive materials at the site.
Legal Proceedings
The recovered items have been handed over to Dungtlang Police Station for further investigation and legal action.
Strategic Location
Located in an extreme frontier area, Saikumphai hamlet has been known as a passage used by insurgent groups from Myanmar to enter Mizoram, especially during Myanmar army crackdowns or internal conflicts among Chin armed groups in the Chin state of Myanmar adjoining Mizoram.
