UP Weather: Relief in Lucknow, Bundelkhand Still Scorching

Lucknow: Temperatures dipped in most parts of Uttar Pradesh, including Lucknow, on Wednesday, bringing relief from the scorching weather that had persisted for the past 20 days. However, the Bundelkhand region continued to reel under severe hot conditions. Similar weather conditions are expected for the next two to three days.

Banda Records Highest Temperature

Banda once again emerged as the hottest place in the country, recording a maximum temperature of 45.8 degrees Celsius. This marks the eighth time in the past 15 days that Banda has topped the national heat chart.

The intensity of the heat dropped following the change in conditions, although the weather turned sultry.

According to meteorological officials, the city might witness partly cloudy skies with a few spells of rain or thundershowers on Thursday and Friday. Maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be around 34 and 24 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Weather in Other Parts of UP

Districts in western Uttar Pradesh were lashed by thunderstorms, light rain, hail, and strong winds between morning and noon, resulting in a drop in maximum temperatures. Bareilly recorded a maximum temperature of 33 degrees Celsius, Moradabad 32.5, Muzaffarnagar 34, and Meerut 34.6 degrees Celsius.

East Uttar Pradesh experienced a hot day with late afternoon storms and drizzles bringing partial relief. High readings included Prayagraj at 43.4 degrees Celsius, Orai at 43.3, Kanpur at 42.6, Varanasi at 41.6, Sonbhadra at 41.4, and Rae Bareli at 40.4 degrees Celsius.

Cause of Weather Change

The India Meteorological Department attributed the change in weather conditions to the incursion of moisture-laden easterly winds from the Bay of Bengal into the state’s atmosphere, along with a Western Disturbance over Pakistan and a cyclonic circulation over Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir.

According to senior scientist at IMD Lucknow, Mohammad Danish, similar conditions are likely to continue over the next two days. While temperatures will remain at normal levels, humidity levels may rise, making the weather sultry with high discomfort levels. Thereafter, temperatures are expected to rise by three to five degrees Celsius during the first few days of May.
