Severe Weather Claims Lives and Damages Crops Across Rajasthan

Two individuals lost their lives and the state's agricultural sector suffered extensive damage as active western disturbances unleashed a series of severe weather events across multiple districts of Rajasthan on Tuesday morning. The meteorological phenomenon resulted in lightning strikes, hailstorms, and heavy rainfall that affected numerous regions, creating hazardous conditions and disrupting normal life.

Fatal Lightning Incidents in Sikar and Kota

According to police reports, a tragic incident occurred in Sikar district where a woman died after being struck by lightning. The victim, identified as Sohni Devi from Nimeda village in the Shrimadhopur area, was engaged in household work when the lightning struck. Despite receiving primary medical care at a local government hospital and being referred to Jaipur for further treatment, she succumbed to her injuries during transit.

In a separate incident in Kota district, a 25-year-old youth named Dilkhush lost his life to a lightning strike at Mandana village. Police stated that the young man had gone to check a motor in his field around 8 AM during rainfall when the fatal strike occurred. These incidents highlight the dangerous conditions created by the sudden weather changes affecting the region.

Widespread Hailstorms and Rainfall Across Districts

The severe weather system impacted at least twelve districts throughout the day, with four districts—Alwar, Sikar, Jhunjhunu, and Bharatpur—experiencing particularly intense hailstorms. Light hail accompanied by rain was reported from Kuloth and surrounding areas of Jhunjhunu district, as well as in Jorawar Nagar Kanchanpur village in Sikar's Shrimadhopur area.

Additional districts including Sawai Madhopur, Karauli, Dausa, Kota, Jhalawar, Baran, and Bundi witnessed similar adverse weather conditions. The widespread nature of these events suggests a significant meteorological disturbance affecting large portions of the state simultaneously.

Property Damage and Agricultural Impact

Beyond the human toll, the severe weather caused substantial property damage and agricultural losses. In Rajgarh town of Alwar district, a lightning strike damaged a house, caused a wall to collapse, and burned several electrical appliances. Fortunately, no casualties were reported from this particular incident.

The extensive crop damage mentioned in initial reports indicates that farmers across affected districts likely suffered significant losses to their agricultural produce. Hailstorms particularly can devastate crops, and combined with heavy rainfall, these conditions create challenging circumstances for Rajasthan's agricultural community during this season.

Meteorological Analysis and Temperature Records

The India Meteorological Department attributed these climatic conditions to active western disturbances moving across the region. Meteorological officials indicated that similar weather patterns might continue in Jaipur, Ajmer, and Kota divisions on Wednesday, suggesting residents should remain prepared for further disruptions.

Temperature records reflected the unusual conditions, with Alwar remaining the coldest location in the state at 4.5 degrees Celsius minimum temperature. In Jaipur, residents experienced intermittent showers throughout the day, with a minimum temperature of 13 degrees Celsius recorded. The city saw a cloudy afternoon with maximum temperatures reaching 21.9 degrees Celsius, creating unseasonably cool conditions for the region.

Regional Impact and Safety Concerns

The widespread nature of these weather events has plunged almost the entire affected region under bitter cold conditions, creating additional challenges for residents. The combination of rainfall, hail, and lightning presents multiple safety hazards that authorities must address through appropriate warnings and preparedness measures.

As western disturbances continue to influence weather patterns across Rajasthan, residents in vulnerable areas are advised to exercise caution, particularly when venturing outdoors during storm conditions. The tragic deaths serve as a sobering reminder of the dangers posed by lightning strikes during such meteorological events.
