Rajasthan Weather: Western Disturbances Trigger Widespread Rainfall and Hailstorms
Large parts of Rajasthan experienced a sudden and significant change in weather conditions on Saturday as active western disturbances swept across the region. The meteorological department confirmed that these disturbances triggered mild to moderate rainfall in numerous areas, with hailstorms reported in specific pockets of Ajmer, Bhilwara, and Dausa districts.
Temperature Drop and Disruption in Daily Life
The spell of inclement weather brought a noticeable drop in temperatures, disrupting normal life across several districts. Alwar emerged as the coldest place in the state, recording a minimum temperature of 7 degrees Celsius. In the state capital, Jaipur recorded a minimum temperature of 12.7 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature during the afternoon stood at 23 degrees Celsius, according to meteorological department officials.
Impact on Jaipur and Traffic Congestion
Jaipur witnessed mild to moderate showers in the evening, with rainfall continuing for nearly half an hour in different parts of the city. The downpour led to significant traffic congestion on major arterial roads, including Tonk Road, JLN Marg, Sawai Jai Singh Highway, and Queens' Road. The Met office has forecast a partly cloudy sky over Jaipur in the coming days, with the possibility of intermittent light to moderate showers.
Hailstorms Raise Concerns for Farmers
In Ajmer city and its surrounding areas, hailstorms were reported, raising serious concerns among farmers who are currently preparing for the harvest of rabi crops scheduled for next month. Similar hailstorm activity was also reported in parts of Dausa, adding to the agricultural worries in the region.
Weather Forecast and Extended Impact
According to the meteorological office, at least 13 districts across Jaipur, Bharatpur, Kota, and Ajmer divisions are likely to experience hailstorms, dust storms, and rainfall from Sunday onwards. A Met official stated, "Active western disturbances are influencing the region, and we expect this weather pattern to continue affecting multiple areas in the coming days."
The sudden weather change has highlighted the vulnerability of both urban and rural areas to such meteorological events, with authorities monitoring the situation closely as residents and farmers brace for potential further disruptions.
