Nellore MP and State Minister Launch Miyazaki Project at Kandukur College Campus
In a significant environmental initiative, Nellore MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy, alongside Andhra Pradesh Endowments Minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy, officially launched the Miyazaki project at the TRR Government Degree College campus in Kandukur on Saturday. The event marked a crucial step in the state's efforts to enhance green cover and combat pollution through innovative forestry techniques.
Massive Planting Drive Using Miyawaki Method
Addressing reporters at the launch, MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy revealed that approximately 2,000 saplings were planted across a 2-acre land parcel in a single day as part of this ambitious project. The initiative employs the Miyawaki technique, a Japanese method that involves densely planting native species close together to ensure rapid growth and achieve high-density forests in a relatively short timeframe.
Swarna Andhra 2047 Vision: Aiming for 50% Green Cover
Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy emphasized that the TDP-led NDA government is firmly committed to achieving 50% green cover in Andhra Pradesh by 2047, as outlined in the "Swarna Andhra 2047 vision". He provided current statistics, noting that while Andhra Pradesh maintains about 30% green cover, Nellore district lags behind at 22%. The MP stated that the government plans to bridge this gap aggressively over the next two decades through sustained efforts and community participation.
Call for Urban Forests to Combat Pollution
Endowments Minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy highlighted the importance of creating more "Urban Forests" (Nagara Vanalu) across the expansive 50-acre college campus to tackle rising pollution levels. He pointed out that these urban forests are critical for achieving sustainable development and serving as a protective shield against the escalating pollution seen in major metropolitan areas like Delhi.
The minister stressed that such green pockets not only improve air quality but also contribute to biodiversity conservation and provide recreational spaces for local communities.
Community Partnership and Future Expansion
The programme concluded with a strong call to action, urging local residents and voluntary organisations to partner with the government in expanding similar green initiatives across the state. The officials encouraged collaborative efforts to replicate the Miyazaki project in other regions, fostering a statewide movement towards environmental sustainability and enhanced green infrastructure.
This launch underscores Andhra Pradesh's proactive approach to ecological restoration, leveraging advanced techniques like the Miyawaki method to accelerate forest growth and meet long-term environmental goals under the Swarna Andhra 2047 vision.
