Lucknow Residents Feel Winter Chill Despite Sunny Skies
On Friday, Lucknow witnessed a peculiar weather phenomenon where sunny relief was overshadowed by a distinct winter chill. This unexpected cold was attributed to cold westerly winds blowing in from the mountainous regions, creating a noticeable drop in temperatures across the city.
Temperature Readings and Weather Patterns
The maximum temperature recorded in Lucknow on Friday was 20.3 degrees Celsius, which is 3.4 degrees below the normal for this time of year. Conversely, the minimum temperature stood at 11.9 degrees Celsius, marking a 3.3 degrees increase above the normal minimum. This unusual pattern highlights the impact of the incoming cold winds.
Expert Insights from Meteorological Department
Senior scientist Mohammad Danish from the state meteorological department provided detailed analysis. He stated, "A significant drop in temperature was recorded across the state during the last 48 hours due to cold and dry northwesterly winds originating from the snow-covered mountain regions. Temperatures fell below normal in many places, including Lucknow."
Danish further elaborated on the upcoming weather conditions. "On Saturday, dense to very dense fog is expected, which will lead to a further drop in temperature. Subsequently, due to the influence of an upcoming Western Disturbance, rain is expected in the state on the first three days of February."
Forecast for the Coming Days
The weather office has issued specific predictions for the near future:
- Saturday: Dense to very dense fog anticipated, causing additional temperature declines.
- February 1 to 3: Rain expected across Uttar Pradesh due to the Western Disturbance, with temperatures rising by 2-4 degrees and fog decreasing because of increased atmospheric instability.
- February 4 Onwards: A slight drop in temperature is again expected as conditions stabilize.
For Lucknow, the maximum and minimum temperatures are projected to hover around 20 degrees Celsius and 10 degrees Celsius, respectively. Meanwhile, in Uttar Pradesh, dense to very dense fog is likely at a few places, adding to the winter woes.
Residents are advised to prepare for fluctuating weather conditions, with cold winds, fog, and rain shaping the forecast in the days ahead.
