Shia Community in Jammu & Kashmir Rallies with Humanitarian Aid for Iran
In a powerful display of solidarity, hundreds of members from the Shia community gathered at an Imambara in Chanderkot, located within the Ramban district of Jammu & Kashmir, on Tuesday. The primary objective of this significant assembly was to extend both financial and material assistance to individuals and families impacted by the ongoing and escalating conflict in Iran.
Massive Donation Drive Witnesses Overwhelming Generosity
The organized relief effort saw an extraordinary outpouring of support from local residents. People from all walks of life contributed generously, donating substantial amounts of money, essential household utensils, and precious items including gold and silver jewellery. Notably, even young children participated enthusiastically by donating the contents of their personal piggy banks, symbolizing a community-wide commitment.
Further amplifying the humanitarian spirit, several residents offered livestock, such as sheep, as part of the comprehensive relief package. Women were actively seen contributing their personal ornaments, including bangles and earrings, while numerous families gave whatever resources they could muster to support the people in war-ravaged Iran.
Voices from the Ground: Expressions of Support and Hope
Bushra Shakir, a participant in the Ramban drive, conveyed her sentiments to news agencies, stating, "I have come here to donate money in support of Iran, alongside many others who have gathered for the same cause. Everyone should support Iran. We have high hopes for the new leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, and believe Iran will be victorious this time. We will celebrate Eid when Iran wins. I am here today with my 'Gullak' (money-box) to make my donation."
Similar compassionate scenes were reported from the Budgam district, where locals established a dedicated stall at Masjid Imam Zaman to collect donations in solidarity with Iran. Contributions included gold, silver, and cash from the community.
Strategic Support Through Financial Means
Mohsin Ali, an organizer from Budgam, explained the rationale behind the initiative, saying, "At Masjid Imam Zaman, we have set up a stall with the sincere purpose of collecting donations. Our mothers and sisters are contributing jewellery, copper, and cash so that we can support Iran in its current situation."
He elaborated further on the strategic aspect of their support, adding, "Since it is not currently within our power to physically go there to support, we are in a position where we can at least provide financial assistance. We have gathered here for this financial aid to support Iran and to serve humanity."
Ali emphasized the ideological underpinning of their efforts, stating, "Iran has essentially stood up against the oppressor and in support of the oppressed. By supporting Iran's cause, we are helping the oppressed and raising our voices against the oppressor. Since we cannot be there on the battlefield ourselves, we have chosen to provide financial support so they can defend their system and fight against the enemy."
This coordinated humanitarian response highlights the deep-rooted connections and empathy within the Shia community in Jammu & Kashmir, transcending geographical boundaries to offer tangible support during a period of international conflict and crisis.
