Jhunjhunu Administration Takes Strict Action Against River Land Encroachments
In a decisive move to protect river ecosystems, the Jhunjhunu administration executed a major anti-encroachment drive in the Katli river area on Wednesday. This action was carried out in strict compliance with an order from the National Green Tribunal (NGT) in Bhopal, targeting illegal agricultural activities on non-permissible river land.
Massive Destruction of Illegal Crops
The administrative team, led by Gudhagaudji Tehsildar Kuldeep Bhati, systematically destroyed crops that were illegally sown on river land across several revenue villages. These villages include Khatkad, Nangali Nirvan, Ked, and Bas Bisna, which fall under the Ked and Bhatiwad gram panchayats. The operation involved the use of heavy machinery, including six tractors, two JCB machines, and one loader machine, to clear the encroached areas.
Approximately 100 bighas of land in the Bas Bisna area of Bhatiwad, along with additional river area in the Ked gram panchayat, were cleared of crops. In total, the administration reported that encroachments had been made on about 400 bighas of non-permissible river land in both gram panchayat areas, with crops from around 300 bighas being destroyed during this action.
High-Level Security and Coordination
To ensure the smooth execution of the drive, a large police force from various police stations was deployed at the spot. Additionally, an ambulance, fire brigade personnel, and electricity department staff remained on standby throughout the operation. This comprehensive security arrangement highlights the administration's commitment to enforcing the NGT's directives without disruption.
The encroachments primarily involved the cultivation of wheat, gram, mustard, and lentil crops on river land, which is strictly prohibited to maintain natural water flow and prevent environmental degradation.
Administration's Stance and Future Implications
Tehsildar Kuldeep Bhati emphasized that the action was taken in response to clear instructions from NGT Bhopal to remove all encroachments in rivers, drains, and flow areas. He stated, "This action was taken in compliance with these orders, and no kind of encroachment on non-permissible river land will be tolerated in the future." This strong message underscores the administration's zero-tolerance policy towards illegal land use in ecologically sensitive zones.
The drive not only addresses immediate violations but also sets a precedent for stricter enforcement of environmental regulations in the region. It aims to restore the natural state of the Katli river area, ensuring its long-term sustainability and protection from further encroachments.
