IMD Issues Weather Alert for Chandigarh: Rain and Thunderstorms Expected

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has released a special weather bulletin predicting a significant spell of rain and thunderstorms in Chandigarh over the coming days. This change in weather conditions is attributed to a fresh western disturbance set to impact the Himalayan region starting from March 14.

Detailed Forecast for Rainfall and Storm Activity

According to the Chandigarh Meteorological Centre, light to moderate rainfall is likely at isolated places in the city on March 15 and 16. The weather activity is expected to intensify once more between March 18 and 20. Residents should prepare for potential thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds with speeds reaching approximately 30 to 40 kmph at isolated locations.

Temperature Trends and Expected Changes

The IMD has indicated that this weather system could lead to a noticeable drop in maximum temperatures over the next few days. While no major change is anticipated in the next 24 hours, temperatures may fall by around 3 to 5 degrees Celsius during the subsequent five days due to the anticipated rain and storm activity.

No rainfall was recorded during this period.

Five-Day Weather Outlook for the Tricity Region

The IMD's five-day forecast for the Tricity region, which includes Chandigarh and surrounding areas, predicts:

  • Partly cloudy skies with the possibility of thunderstorms or lightning on March 15 and 16.
  • Similar conditions are likely to return around March 18 and 19.
  • Maximum temperatures during this period are expected to range between 27 degrees Celsius and 29 degrees Celsius.
  • Minimum temperatures may remain between 15 degrees Celsius and 17 degrees Celsius.

Residents are advised to stay updated with the latest weather alerts and take necessary precautions during the forecasted periods of inclement weather.
