Panchkula is gearing up for a state-level flood mock exercise scheduled for May 14, with a preparatory table-top drill conducted on Tuesday to review readiness. The exercise will be carried out across 13 flood-prone districts of Haryana, including Panchkula, to assess preparedness, inter-departmental coordination, and response mechanisms.
Preparatory Meeting and Participants
Officials from the district administration, State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), ITBP, and other agencies, including police, fire, health, and civil defence, participated in the preparatory meeting via video conferencing. The NDRF conducted the table-top exercise based on simulated flood scenarios to evaluate roles, identify gaps, and fine-tune response strategies.
Key Directives
Deputy commissioner Satpal Sharma directed all departments to ensure readiness for the mock drill, which will be conducted from 9am at Tikkar Taal in Morni. He also called for public awareness campaigns and wider participation by volunteers, NGOs, and uniformed forces.
Public Advisory
Residents have been urged not to panic, as the exercise is aimed at strengthening disaster preparedness. Officials said the drill will help improve coordination, communication systems, and emergency response, while identifying gaps in evacuation and resource mobilisation.
