Folklore Research Academy Urges Global Peace as West Asia Conflict Escalates
In a significant move, the Folklore Research Academy based in Amritsar has issued a strong appeal for peace in West Asia, condemning the ongoing conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the USA. This statement comes as the war disrupts energy supplies in India and creates instability across the Middle East, affecting millions globally.
Academy President Condemns Devastating War Impacts
Ramesh Yadav, president of the Academy and a founding member of the Hind-Pak Dosti initiative, addressed the media, emphasizing that all members of this Punjabi think tank have united in their condemnation. "This war poses a threat not just to the involved nations but to the entire world," Yadav stated. He detailed the attacks on Iranian cities, military bases, schools, and airports, highlighting the tragic loss of innocent lives, including girls in a school in southern Iran. Yadav criticized these actions as violations of international law, noting that Gulf countries have been indirectly drawn into the conflict, leaving lakhs of people stranded worldwide, including from India, with uncertain futures.
Punjabi Scholar Warns of Consequences for India
Jaswant Singh Randhawa, a renowned Punjabi scholar and writer, echoed these concerns, urging the Central Government to take concerted efforts to halt the war. "History shows that war never resolves issues; it only brings suffering," Randhawa remarked. He referenced the Russia-Ukraine war, where many Punjabis faced collateral damage, and pointed out that numerous Indians, particularly Punjabis working as expats in the Middle East, are now trapped in uncertainty. Additionally, he highlighted the distress among citizens over disruptions in LPG and fuel supplies in India, calling for immediate action to prevent further repercussions.
Broader Implications for Global Stability
The Academy's appeal underscores the far-reaching effects of the West Asia conflict, from humanitarian crises to economic disruptions. As energy supplies falter and civilians face displacement, the call for peace resonates beyond regional borders, emphasizing the need for diplomatic solutions to safeguard international law and human rights.
