Ahmedabad Residents Surprised by Brief Showers Amid Unseasonably Warm Conditions
On Monday morning and afternoon, citizens of Ahmedabad were taken by surprise as light showers briefly drenched some parts of the city. The rainfall, however, was temporary, with temperatures remaining notably high throughout the day.
IMD Forecast: Rain Systems to Dissipate, Temperatures to Stabilize
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the weather systems responsible for the showers are expected to dissipate starting Tuesday, with slim chances of further rainfall. A senior IMD official explained that Gujarat experienced the influence of two troughs: one extending from northwest Uttar Pradesh to north Gujarat across central Rajasthan, and another from south Karnataka to Marathwada.
"As a result, areas including north Gujarat, most districts in Saurashtra, and parts of south Gujarat received light showers. The rainfall was not significant," the official stated.
Temperature Trends and Weather Patterns
Residents witnessed cloudy skies in the morning, which cleared to sunny weather by late afternoon. The maximum temperature recorded was 34.2°C, which is 1.9 degrees above normal, while the minimum temperature was 19.5°C, marking a 3.9-degree increase above normal levels.
The IMD forecast predicts that temperatures will remain in a similar range on Tuesday. For Gujarat, both maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to drop by 2-3 degrees over the next 24 hours before stabilizing.
Extreme Temperatures Across the State
On Monday, Naliya recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the state at 14.8°C, whereas Mahuva experienced the highest maximum temperature at 36.9°C. These readings highlight significant fluctuations in temperatures observed throughout February, raising concerns among experts.
Health Implications of Weather Fluctuations
Experts have pointed out that such temperature variations can have serious implications for agriculture and public health. A city-based physician noted, "Several citizens are experiencing viral infections and subsequent sore throats. Patients often report symptoms persisting for over a week with little relief. Those susceptible to weather changes are also facing health issues."
The unexpected showers and elevated temperatures serve as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of weather patterns and their broader impacts on daily life and well-being in Ahmedabad.
