Union Minister V. Somanna has announced that the Tumakuru-Chitradurga-Davangere railway line is expected to be completed and opened for operations by 2028. The announcement was made during a review meeting of railway projects in the region.
Project Details and Timeline
The new rail line, which will connect the three major districts of Karnataka, is a significant infrastructure project aimed at improving connectivity and boosting economic development. Minister Somanna stated that the project is progressing as per schedule and that all necessary clearances have been obtained. The line is expected to reduce travel time and provide an alternative route for freight and passenger traffic.
Infrastructure Works in Tumakuru
In addition to the rail line, a total of 32 road overbridges (RoB) and road underbridges (RuB) are being executed in Tumakuru district, which is Somanna’s Lok Sabha constituency. These structures are part of efforts to enhance road safety and ease congestion at railway crossings. The minister emphasized that the central government is committed to modernizing railway infrastructure in Karnataka.
The Tumakuru-Chitradurga-Davangere rail line is part of a broader plan to expand the rail network in the state. Once operational, it is expected to facilitate faster movement of goods and passengers, contributing to regional development. The project has been allocated sufficient funds, and work is underway at multiple locations.
Benefits for the Region
The new railway line will connect Tumakuru, a growing industrial hub, with Chitradurga and Davangere, known for their agricultural and commercial activities. This will open up new opportunities for trade and tourism. Local residents and businesses have welcomed the announcement, hoping for improved connectivity and economic growth.
Minister Somanna also assured that the government is monitoring the progress closely and that any bottlenecks will be addressed promptly. He urged the public to cooperate with the construction agencies to ensure timely completion.
