A tragic road accident on the national highway in Hamirpur district on Wednesday afternoon claimed two lives and left three others critically injured. The incident occurred when a gravel-laden truck lost control and overturned onto an e-rickshaw near Kundaura village under the Sumerpur police station area.
Details of the Accident
According to officials, the truck was transporting gravel from Kabrai to Kanpur. While en route, the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to topple onto the e-rickshaw carrying five passengers. Two individuals died on the spot, while three others sustained severe injuries. The deceased were identified as e-rickshaw driver Baliram Nishad (40) and his wife Santoshi Nishad, both residents of Bada Kachhar.
Rescue and Relief Operations
Following the crash, chaos ensued on the highway. Police from Sumerpur station arrived promptly and initiated rescue operations. The truck driver, trapped inside the cabin, was extricated after significant effort and rushed to a hospital. The injured were admitted to the district hospital, while the bodies were sent for post-mortem examination.
Rajesh Kamal, an eyewitness, stated that the accident occurred due to the truck going out of control. Authorities cleared the damaged vehicles and restored traffic flow on the highway.
Victims and Injuries
The injured include Kaku (35), the truck driver from Nawabganj, Unnao; Chandni (32) and her 5-year-old son, passengers of the e-rickshaw; and Shivkumar (38), a resident of Jhanjhariya Dera. All are receiving medical treatment. The police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.
