Russia Accuses US of Neo-Colonialism Over Oil, Praises India

Russia has fired back at the United States, accusing it of employing 'dirty tricks' in the global oil market. Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Wednesday denounced Western efforts to force countries to abandon cheap Russian oil in favor of more expensive American liquefied natural gas, labeling such demands as 'neo-colonialism'.

Lavrov Praises India's Stance

Speaking at a press conference, Lavrov specifically hailed India for its 'firm' independence in energy policy. He noted that New Delhi has refused to bow to Western pressure, continuing to purchase Russian crude at discounted prices. 'India is showing the world what true sovereignty looks like,' Lavrov said.

West Accused of Energy Imperialism

The Russian minister warned that the West is attempting to control global energy markets to maintain its dominance. 'They want to rule the world by controlling its energy resources,' he asserted, adding that such tactics are reminiscent of colonial-era exploitation.

Lavrov's comments come amid heightened tensions over oil prices and supply chains. Russia has been offering steep discounts on its crude since Western sanctions were imposed, while the US has pushed allies to reduce reliance on Russian energy.

Analysts suggest that the battle for oil influence is shaping up to be a key front in the 2026 geopolitical struggle. With India emerging as a major player, its energy choices are being closely watched by both Moscow and Washington.
