The Punjab Government has officially launched a significant project aimed at the cleaning and restoration of the holy sarovar at Bhagwan Valmiki Tirath Sthal, widely known as Ram Tirath, in Amritsar. Work on this initiative is expected to commence shortly.
Project Details and Budget
The sarovar restoration project, estimated at a cost of Rs 3.74 crore, is a key component of a larger development package worth Rs 17.72 crore. This comprehensive package is designed to upgrade infrastructure and facilities at the revered religious site, ensuring a better experience for devotees and pilgrims.
Scope of Restoration Work
Bal Jogi Pragat Nath, chairman of the advisory board of the Bhagwan Valmiki Tirath Sthal Shrine Board, provided insights into the project. He stated that the restoration will involve desilting the sarovar, laying clean sand, and executing other improvement works. The tendering process has been completed, and work is set to begin soon.
Additional Infrastructure Upgrades
Beyond the sarovar restoration, approximately Rs 2.80 crore will be allocated for painting and polishing the main temple, repairing pillars along the approach road, and conserving sandstone structures. Furthermore, works worth Rs 2.42 crore will focus on repairing stonework in Sangat Hall and renovating the Langar Hall, sarai, and Panorama complex. Devotee facilities will also see upgrades, including new furniture, air conditioners, and other amenities, costing Rs 1.74 crore.
Enhancing Basic Amenities
The government is investing over Rs 5 crore to increase the capacity of the sewage treatment plant, renovate bathrooms, install new air conditioners and geysers, and strengthen fire safety systems. Pragat Nath assured that there is no shortage of funds for the shrine's development.
Government Commitment
Aam Aadmi Party leader Sonia Mann, speaking on the occasion, reiterated the government's commitment to the beautification and overall development of the sacred site. Before the cleaning work began, Pragat Nath, Sonia Mann, and other leaders ceremonially collected and preserved the sacred water of the sarovar, intending to return it after the restoration process is complete.

Chairman of the Safai Karamchari Commission Chandan Grewal and Chairman of the Dalit Development Board Vijay Danav expressed their gratitude to the government for undertaking the development of this historic pilgrimage site, highlighting the importance of preserving cultural and religious heritage.
