Chandigarh: Punjab finance minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Tuesday flagged off five new Super Integral Volvo coach buses of Punbus that will operate between Jalandhar, Ludhiana and the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi.
Enhanced Connectivity for Travelers
Cheema said the service was aimed at providing comfortable, safe and affordable connectivity to international travellers, NRIs and other passengers. He emphasized that the airport bus service, launched in June 2022, would be further strengthened with the induction of additional buses. The new Volvo coaches are equipped with modern amenities to ensure a pleasant journey.
Expansion of Public Transport Fleet
The minister also announced that Punjab is expanding its public transport fleet significantly. A total of 696 new buses are being added to Punjab Roadways, Punbus, and PRTC, including ordinary, air-conditioned, and premium coach buses. This expansion aims to improve inter-city and intra-city connectivity across the state.
These new buses are expected to reduce travel time and provide a reliable option for passengers heading to the Delhi airport. The initiative aligns with the state government's commitment to enhancing public transportation infrastructure and promoting eco-friendly travel.
