Pre-Monsoon Rainfall Brings Relief to Marathwada
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Parts of Marathwada experienced significant pre-monsoon rainfall overnight on Sunday, providing much-needed relief from the hot and humid conditions that had prevailed in the region. The rainfall also helped reduce the overall rainfall deficit in several districts, according to official data.
Dharashiv recorded the highest rainfall at 31mm, followed by Latur with 14mm and Beed with 9mm. However, other areas, including Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, witnessed only light showers accompanied by gusty winds, the data showed.
This spell of rain pushed the rainfall quantum in Dharashiv to a surplus of 196% for June so far. Latur and Beed also registered surpluses of 115% and 112%, respectively, after the overnight downpour. In contrast, the remaining five districts in Marathwada continue to face a rainfall deficit for the month. Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Jalna are the worst affected, each recording a 64% shortfall, followed by Hingoli (-51%), Parbhani (-34%), and Nanded (-21%), according to the data.

KK Dakhore, an agricultural meteorologist at the Vasantrao Naik Marathwada Agricultural University in Parbhani, stated that the southwest monsoon has advanced up to Solapur. "It is difficult to predict the exact arrival of the monsoon in Marathwada, as weather systems remain dynamic. Parts of the region are, however, likely to receive significant rainfall from June 12 due to expected pre-monsoon activity," he said.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast indicates that Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and nearby areas are likely to experience partly cloudy skies with occasional spells of rain or thundershowers in the coming days.
Meanwhile, the maximum temperature in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar stood at 39.4°C, which is two degrees above normal, highlighting the continued wait for sustained rainfall to bring down temperatures and provide lasting relief.
